- Software as a Service (SaaS) Solutions such as Microsoft 365 and Google applications are not automatically protected. Data backed up in the cloud has been proven to be just as important as traditional on-premises IT backup. Both Microsoft and Google actually recommend a third-party solution to securely backup your cloud data.
- Microsoft 365 Backup is Insufficient. There is a misconception that Microsoft provides sufficient backup, but this is not the case. Microsoft specifically state that they do not recover data associated with ransomware, files that have been permanently deleted, inactive licenses or app outages.
- 64% of SaaS ransomware attacks happened on Microsoft 365 and Google also have regular cyber attacks. Whilst we wish it was possible, we cannot completely eradicate the chance of schools falling victim to an attack (as in many cases it is due to human error), however having a reliable and secure backup is the best way to ensure your data is restored as quickly as possible.
